Joaquin Solorzano

Joaquin Solórzano – Bassist

Joaquin Solórzano was born in Managua, Nicaragua, Central America.  His father moved his family to San Francisco, CA when Joaquin was 3 years old.  The San Francisco music scene along with the Beatles, were a big influence on him.  He started playing music at the age of 8, beginning with piano.  At age 11, he played drums for his elementary school.  He then started playing clarinet in junior high school and all through high school while playing rhythm guitar and bass for his family band.  

Settling on making bass his main instrument at age 15, his biggest influences where Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, James Jamerson, Bobby Valentin and Paul McCartney.  Joaquin has played with some of the bay area’s great musicians.  He was the bass player for the legendary Latin-rock band MALO from 1986 – 1994.  He has recently started working on a project with Jose “Chepito” Areas (Santana), and one with Mingo Lewis (Ray Charles/Stanley Clarke/Santana/Al Dimeola).  He has toured extensively and has shared the stage with such acts as Santana, The Neville Brothers, Van Morrison, Tower of Power, Pete Escovedo, Cheap Trick, Spencer Davis, Yellow Jackets, Linda Rondstadt, Gap Band, War, Neal Schon, Greg Rolie and Jefferson Starship among others.

He is currently recording his first Christian cd compiled of songs written by him along with his dear and close friend Diana “Dee” Felix.
