Growing up in East Side San Jose JoeRay was influenced by the music of
Tower of Power, the Barkays, Luther Vandross, Prince, El Chicano, Little
Joe y la familia and many others. Weddings, parties and family get
togethers were always a mix of different types of music and everyone had
a great time. JoeRay learned early that having a little bit of something
for everyone meant the party was a success. With the natural talent that
God gifted him with, JoeRay enjoyed great success on the Karaoke
circuit. Winning the South Bay Sing-off and flying off to Spain to sing
in clubs was the “kick” JoeRay needed to seriously pursue a music
career.
JoeRay and his cousin Ed formed Mystique in 1995 and quickly became one
of the hottest South Bay bands. JoeRay played with such heavy hitters in
the Latin music scene such as Pete and Juan Escovedo, Jorge Santana,
Richard Segovia of Bandidos, Tony Menjivar, Leo Rosales and Gibby Ross
of Malo, Raul Rico and Karl Perazza of Santana, Richard Bean of Sapo.
JoeRay has opened up for El Chicano, Tierra, Malo, Pancho Sanchez and of
course, Little Joe. JoeRay has had the privilege of singing the national
anthem at the Oakland Stadium and 3-COM park. 10,000 came to Music in
the Park to hear JoeRay with Mystique.
JoeRay left Mystique in 2001 to concentrate on writing, producing and
arranging his original music. Together with his mentor Joe Lopez, JoeRay
put together his own studio and started recording “El Barrio”.
JoeRay and Joe Lopez continue to create music and assist other artists
whenever possible. No stranger to the music scene, JoeRay continued to
entertain audiences while working with the musicians and artists he’s
held in high regard.
An energetic, personable front man JoeRay yearned to be back on stage
singing and entertaining the people of the South Bay area. Early 2005,
JoeRay and Carlos Silva started forming Latin Affect. People in the
South Bay were searching for good music with a little Latin soul. Latin
Affect jumped onto the scene and keeps the party hoppin’. Latin Affect
members bring their hot music, experience and energy to the people and
keep them on their dancing feet.
JoeRay was born and raised in San Jose, met his wife cruising on Story
and King and continues to raise his family here. This is where he grew
up listening to the music, partying with family and friends and where
his roots will always be.
